William Robert Wilson was born October 8, 1884 in Chicago, the oldest child of James Henry and Hannah Krause Wilson. After graduating in 1906 from Chicago's Armour Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Wilson obtained a job with Corn Products Refining Company, where he stayed less than a year. The Armour Institute (1893-1940) was a Chicago educational institution committed to providing students of all backgrounds with technological preparation for work in industry. Reverend Frank W. Gunsaulus of Plymouth Church on the South Side of Chicago was the inspiration for its founding and its first president.
